We swung by Lk. Stevens on the way home from our weekend trip in search of some smallmouth. We arrived at 4:30pm and the water temp was at 60 degrees. Fished our usual spots with jigs, grubs, jerkbaits, etc., all with no success. Towards the end of the night, we were working our way around the east side of the lake, heading back to the launch as it was now 8pm. Hopes of getting in to some fish were starting to become very dim. I was working my jerkbait in black/white to match the bait fish, along the docks when I felt the hit. I could tell that this was a big fish. It made a couple of dives and put on a tail dance show for me before I got it into the boat, thanks to the mastered net job of my co-pilot Ryan. I couldn't believe my eyes, this fish was HUGE!

I can't say exactly how big this fish was, as our scale is broken and we're waiting for our new one, though as my best guess, I would have to say it was around 6lbs. This is of course just my closest guess as I have handled 6lb. largemouth and this one felt to be the same weight. By far my largest smallmouth and now my new mark to beat. Don't think it gets any better than this. As always, the fish was released after a couple pictures, unharmed, and to be caught another day.
