My son wanted to go catch a "big fish" so I took him out to catch one. I first stopped by Horseshoe Lake (PO Co) but there was too many people swimming at boat launch so we turned around. I decided to go try this lake since I haven't been here in a couple years. When we got there some guy was blasting foreign pop music and parked near the boat launch. I looks like he had been fishing because he was drumping something from his net into a clear plastic tote and it was moving. I decided to go check the lake out first before getting everything out of the car. Then the music lover decided to back up, blocking the boat launch with music still blaring and decided to go for a quick swim. I decided to give the launch a try. As I was getting our gear out of my trunk we were inundated by yellow jackets! My son had three crawling on him and a few were buzzing me and the wife. SO we hurried up to the launch to throw in our lines. I was using a worm with a dark green Mike's glo marshmellow (shrimp sent) and just put a worm on my son's without any weight. Overall I had a couple good hits but since I had trying to help my son I missed them. He had a lot of fun just watching the small bluegill swim from under the concrete launch and try to take his worm. They probably weren't more than 3 inches long. My wife got stung by a yellow jacket, it was also pretty warm sitting in the afternoon sun, so we decided to leave and go get dinner at The Ram....they have great huckleberry ice cream cones and milkshakes! The yellow jackets were very aggressive so just a warning to all who park at the launch....down at the launch they didn't seem very bad though.

Deer lake in stevens county is full of yellow jackets as well. My girlfriend has been there 2 days and 4 members of her family have been stung

We were at Fan lake on saturday. Went out about 6 am and back in around 1 pm. I was attacked by a yellow jacket as soon my feet hit the launch coming in. We didn't see any on the lake or on shore anywhere else. Couple big nasty horseflys came after us on the water though. Fishing was slow. We got 5 pan size perch and bass and a lot of 3-4 inch bluegills and pumpkin seeds. The north end is full of tiny fish.

It is hot, dry and we had had a fair amount of wind. All three combined make those little critters mean.
