Drewp, Mr./Mrs. Magler and myself tried our luck on Lk. Stevens Sunday. We tried a few diff tactics to see if we couldn't stumble upon a winter smallie but had zero luck. I happened to hook into about a 16" cutthroat (my dad thinks it was a kokanee, even though he wasn't there), unfortunately we didn't get a picture of it because it spit the plastic craw / football jig right at the boat.
The only reason this day didn't get a 1 or 2 rating was because we got to spend it on Mr. Magler's new boat on a spectacular, but still chilly chill, mid-January day. And on top of that I got to calibrate my new rod/reel and hook into a decent sized resident of this lake, which I thought was a smallie until I could see it (that's how antzy I am to catch a bass in the middle of winter).
Anyone that is willing to share techniques / tactics for hookin' into either kind of bass at this time of year please feel free to share...my thank you to you sharing your suggestions is me sharing a couple pictures I snapped while on the water...I know, what a deal right?

bassing is hard right now on this side of the mountains. everything has to be presented slow, slower, and slowest. they can be caught (leachim-dahc caught one with me on lake washington amonth ago-pounder-jig-drifting), it is just really hard right now. they catch them thru the ice on the other side of the mountains (eloika, long). ive been waiting to see danielt's report from lake wa on sunday (from what ive read, he has immense knowledge, and a nice new boat). good luck!!
