This is my first report for 2008 and my first time out on the water this year. I gave in today (major cabin fever) and went to Lake Goodwin for an hour or so to wet a line. My expectations of catching fish were low as the water is still cold and I know the trout are lethargic. I launched at 2:45 pm and went towards the middle of the lake directly out from the Launch at Wenberg State Park. I was in 30 feet of water and large schools passed by one after the other at about 25 feet deep. I used power bait and a worm just off the bottom and after about 20 minutes caught 1 very nice healthy trout 13.5 inches. I was surprised to say the least and the smell of fish in the boat was great. It was cold on the water and I was the only one fishing. There were two other boats similar to mine that launched after me but didn’t stray far from the launch. My guess is they were just out for a test run. I rated the trip a 3 because I caught a fish which I didn’t expect to do, and it was great to get out on the water. My guess is that trout fishing will start to pick up in about a month or so when things start to warm up a bit. I’m looking forward to the early stock in some of the year round lakes which seems to come at or around the end of March first week of April in my area. I attached a pic of the catch and my boat at the launch. Good luck and good fishin.
