After not enough success in the morning at Wapato Lake, we headed over to check out Rufus Woods for the first time. It was sunny, but by the time we got the boat in the water, the weather got quite windy and some rain was falling off and on. Felt a little under powered in the 12 foot portabote with the 55 pound electric trolling motor, but we headed down wind any ways. We launched from the south side, at the boat launch just east of Chief Jospeph Dam.

There were two other cars and trailers in the parking lot, and we saw a couple people fishin on a nearby pier. Water temp was about 48 degrees, if I remember right. Saw MANY fish on the fish finder hugging the bottom in 40-100 feet of water.

Had trouble trolling so after a few minutes we parked along the bank and switched to spin casting black roostertails, in the wind and rain. My friend got a bite pretty quickly, so we knew we were doing something right. We all got strikes but no catches. I had two strikes, saw them both, one was on for about 10 seconds. Nothing too huge, but not small either.

After a while we decided to see if the trolling motor would take us back to the launch with the battery depleted. But while we were travelling back, the weather cleared up a little so we decided to tie up to a rock about 50 yards from the bank. We began casting from the boat. It did not take long at all for my friend to land a 14 incher. Not too long after that he landed a 16 incher. Both were caught on a black roostertail with splitshot weight pinched down just in front of the lure. He would let the lure sink for a few seconds before retrieving it.

We got back to the launch and called it good. Felt good to try this water out, knowing little of it, and actually catch a few. I used the new hotspots feature to try to show where we were.
