Bottom Fishing From Boat
Largemouth Bass

Well me and my buddy got to Long Lake at about 6 a.m. Water was 52 with a light breeze. We only caught one a piece. I caught one that was between 3 and 4 lbs. No, I didn't have a scale with me today. It's now on my list of things to buy. My buddy caught a monster. He did take it home to weight it and measure it. Sorry guys, and no we don't normally keep our bass. Well he stopped on the way home and bought a digital scale. He said the bass weighed at 9.01lbs. I wouldn't normally give two bass five stars but both fish caught were more than average size so it gets a good rating today. Wind was still pretty calm when we left at 1100. Water temp was 54.

Oh boy, here we go. I would say your bass is maybe 1.8lbs and your buddies 5lbs. Sorry man, can't believe that fish is 9lbs unless your buddie is Godzilla! I think you will be humbled once you get a scale. And on top of it all you say that he kept the big bass (with spawn so close)..... I would have just not put a report up. This will get interesting.

Sorry fishinislife! He did feel bad takin it. He said he got the scale on the way home from cabelas. When he got home it said 9.01. He took it home for measurements and weight he wants to get a replica made. Anyway my apoligies for anyone offended, we usually C&R.

wrong, alinen3. Catch the small ones, keep those in moderation, and release the fish of a lifetime so it can be another anglers fish of a lifetime...

You need to tell him that you can get a replica made from that picture and two pieces of fishing line cut to the fishes length and girth!! That will also give weight! To bad you guys didn't know that!! Hopefully the next fish this might be the way you do it?

WOW! I'm a moron? Interesting alinen3, according to your standards I have caught over 50 bass this big and should have eatin' every single one of them. This is a 5lb bass maybe 6lb.

Come on people look at some big bass pics. Check out Casey's 7lber, http://www.washingtonlakes.com/forum/yaf_postst3559_SILVER-LAKE-PIG.aspx
your telling me this guys bass is 2lbs bigger?
I'm not trying to bust anyones balls, but let's be honest. Call it what it is. And like Taz said, take lenght and girth measurements and use a calculator to find out the weight if you don't have a scale.

I have looked very close at this fish and it looks like it may be 20+in long. The mouth doesn't look as large as it should, the length is close. Its a great catch any way! If the fish was still alive Cabela's might make him a replica for the fish, to ad to the fish tank?

I have to stick up for my buddy fishinislife. I have a very hard time thinking that bass is nine pounds. Like he said, go back and look at some nine pounders from previous reports (if you can find some nine pounders -- that is a rarity). But also look at some seven or eights. for that bass to weigh in at nine pounds it would have weighed 24.5 pounds. Here is a website that converts weight to measurment. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/recreational/catchrelease/bass_length_weight.phtml I can see six pounds, tops

Finally, the moron comment was rude, to any member of the website, but especially to a VIP like fishinislife. Fishinislife is one of the big reasons this website is gaining so much poplularity. He comes up with great ideas and is one hell of an angler. This website is too small for people with chips on their shoulders.

Derek I still love you man!! LOL I know it wasn't your call or your fish so you shouldn't get the grief !! I also know you didn't see the scale so why summit your self to this drama/bad press? You had to see it coming as one of the big c&r people your self!

Amen beerman1981!!! Fishnislife is the bomb -- hey alinen3 relax buddy. Nice bass...althou I doubt it was 9lbs. Perhaps 5 or 6...good job fellas. Stop bashing people for keeping fish and the use of "moron" is uncalled for and doesn't even warrant a respone...got that fella? Good -- Tight lines, KTK

No matter how you look at that I would say that is a nice fish! good job! My opinion that fish could go as high as 7lbs it's hard to tell, is that man a big fellow? That looks like the same guy in a report from st. clair last year I think who has a pic of a bass he calls 6lbs+ and I know there is no way it's 6, 4 at best, go check it out. If I ever catch my 8lb or bigger fish i'm gonna keep to mount also, I've seen those fake ones and I dont like them. Just my 2 cents.

HOLY COW THAT IS A HOG! Coming from someone who's largest bass is about 6 inches, I would've bonked that thing silly and mounted it over my fireplace! Good work, looks around 6-7 pounds to me! Good work bro!

Man, too many people are arguing over something so petty. I have seen some 9 lb fish and I have caught some nearly that size. While this may not look like a 9lb fish why argue about it?

Okay guys the guy in the boat is about5'10 and 240. My fish was caught on a texas rig and his is a secret! As for the size it don't matter to me it was very nice and we had a good day on the water.

Come on fellas, lets keep it civil. I don't want no one getting banned or ditching this site because of the stuff going down in this report. Congrats on the nice fish. But take heed, when you post pictures of a nice bass and mention it was kept, and so close to the spawn, you are setting yourself up to get some shots coming your way....

After reading all these post I am suprised at some of you. We all know that fishermen = liers. But yet some of you are going to get butt hurt over the weight of some fish. I could understand if fishing season was still a few months off and some of you Nancys wanted to get all emotional about "size does matter". But hey it is fishing season so take off your blouse but on a life jacket and go get some tight lines.

Well I am not at work anymore! I got the measurements from my buddy. Using the scale that sparky101 mentioned below this bass should have weighed 7.26 lbs. The length was 22 inches and the girth was 18.5 inches. I have additional pictures if anyone is interested i can email them. I will gaurantee this fish was was more than 5 i lipped it. The one from St. Clair was a four in my opinion but I have never made it a habit to ruin someones day after they caught a pig. But i will give them my opinion.

I would agree with that. That was my impression from the start. No matter what anyone says that's a great fish. If he thinks it's 9 lbs and wants to mount it...good for him.

that is one sweet fish, and yes, alinen3, personal verbal comments like the one you posted will result in finding a different fishing web site to be a member of. Verbal Warning, be nice. The world has enough ugly in it, we don't need to add to it. :-)

First I would like to say to everyone thank you for all your comments. I have never been talked about so much and in a bad way. I don't like the way people are coming down on my fishing body bassmasterderek, it's wrong and should stop. As for as people commenting on how they always releas there fish well that’s nice for them too. For me I don't even eat fish but I understand one thing and that is Bass are fish and fish are food. I have a very sick and dieing mother who always ask me and my body to bring her back some bass to eat and we never do. On this day I told him that I wanted to get her something to eat because she can only eat certan things with the caner in her like it is. I told him that I wanted to keep at least one to give her for Mothers day. I didn't know that it would be the only fish we would have for the day to give her. We were leaving and it was caught just before we left. Now all the name calling is wrong and people should not be made to feel bad just for putting food on the table. I am a hunter and I hunt for fish. I really only like to hunt for croppie but that is hard to do with all the bass fishing that my body likes to do. Half the time that we fish I'm fishing for croppie and he is for bass. You don't have to like me or what I have done but no this, you wouldn't expect a deer hunter to pay for a license, pay for gas, pay for parking, and spend days hunting and then just take a photo! I love fishing but I love my mother more. And last we don't usually keep the bass but we do catch a lot of them. One more thing, I got a new scale and it was my first time using it. I didn’t have new batteries so took them from my moms TV remote. I weighed the fish six to eight times and it came out 8-9 lbs each time. Now, I could be wrong but out of all the times that I held it up, 9.01 came up the most and was the last to be read. I attempted to save it on the scale but it would not save. Something may be wrong with it. I will take it to my body and use one of his five pound weights to test it. I hope this will stop all the hate. I all have the write to live and let live. p.s. I would love to have a small tourney with bigbadtaz and sparky101 against me and bassmasterderek just for fun.
