Got out on Newman around 8 am with a friend and his son. Water temp started around 56 and ended up around 65 degrees. It rained on and off up until early afternoon and then the sun came out for a nice warm afternoon. Headed straight to the pads and started catching them steady on white and orange crappie jigs. Just casted to edge of pads and slow rolled the jig back to boat. Later in the day, just let jig drop to bottom and sit for a few seconds and then picked it up and steadily got hits. The day's catch was about 35 fish as follows: A 3lb 5oz, a 1lb 4oz, and a couple of dink largemouth, about 5 ring perch, 4 bluegill, 1 pumpkinseed and over 20 crappie. The boy got a small tiger muskie to the boat before the 6lb test snapped. The biggest crappie was 13-inches, a couple of 10-inch, and a lot of 8/9 inch. We released everything except 13 crappie and one perch. My friend caught the big bass on a crappie jig and 4-lb test. Nice fight.

It was a great day on the water. The morning rain was even nice. The rain was warm and the water was warm. Got to tell a short story about a boy and fishing. We were catching them steady and this 10-12 year old boy rolls up on us in a flat bottom aluminum with a 1970s trolling motor on it. He's all over the place and having a hard time controlling the boat. He comes within a foot of our boat and is bottom fishing with a worm. He see's us catching fish and asks what we're using. I tell him white jigs and about 5 minutes later he asks: "Can you give me some of those jigs?" I hooked him up with the jig head and a few jigs and told him how to use them. We were about 50 yards away a few minutes later and we heard him screaming, "I caught one, I caught one, I caught a fish". It was a beautiful thing. That's fishing at it purest.

Great fishing to everyone.
