Finally getting around to reporting on fishing last Saturday at Goodwin. Took a friend and his son in the boat from 8:30am to noon. We were getting consistent action from 9-12 inch hard-fighting, big jumping, rainbow trout, trolling both red and green wedding rings, with and without pop gear. We ended up taking our entire limits. Action was so hot that we had to take a break to "process" the fish.

The weather was mostly cloudy with brief sun breaks, when the action died down a little. Saw a few other boats and they we catching fish too. Very few bank anglers at the state park where we launched. We stayed in the south part of the lake, just south of the state park, fishing in 30-40 feet water, with not much weight on our lines. Trolled 1.3 to 1.5 mph.

But the big stories were the boy catching his first fish outside of a stocked derby, in a natural setting - he caught three! And I took my biggest trout ever: a 20 inch, maybe 3 pounder. I measured the length but not weight. He had a proportional head for the body, so probably not a triploid. He was bright and strong. The funny thing was when I reeled him in, I got my pop gear all in, but there was still much more line out with the fish thrashing out there. Then we noticed line tangled around the pop gear, and realized I had caught a fish that had got away from somebody else! So I had to carefully pull the line in by hand, letting the line out a couple of times for the fish to run. My buddy netted him and we both said Oh My Goodness. The hook in him was a still fishing set up, with the bait long gone.

It was wild pulling that big fish in by hand! What a great day in history. And only one water skier briefly came out during a sun break.

I fished Goodwyn a few weeks back for the first time.. We were successful on the opposite side of the lake from the Wenburg state park. We also trolled wedding rings. Pretty easy lake. Thanks for the report. Urbanangler... you ventured a little out of your Greenlake comfort zone, good to see. You are making quite the use of your folding boat, that's great!

Thanks, man. I think I saw your report before I went. I have been on it a couple of times a few years ago when I friend lived on the lake. Supposed to be plenty of bass too. He trolls perch colored floating Rapalas for both trout and bass there. He also advised me to stick to the south and of the lake for trout.

Bummer is this is the second time i have posted a report where the pictures did not get posted. :(
