I bought a little downrigger for my canoe, so had to go try it out. Learned since my last report that July 1st just over 1000 trips were dumped into the lake. Fish dog & I got there around 7:30am. Spent the morning trolling around the lake using different setups, more exploring the lake and experimenting than anything. Banked the boat along the NE shore about 10:30 for a bit & started casting a bright green rooster tail. You could see the trips cruising the shoreline in about 15-20' of water. Picked up one right off about 17". From there we worked our way along the N shoreline to about the middle of the lake. Found a place to get out and stretch our legs a little bit, then trolled a worm tipped wedding ring & pop gear zig-zagging across to the south side. C&R one 12" Brookie on our way across. It was getting hot, so I tied up to the bank in the shade on south side for lunch. While sitting there I tossed out some PB. I was watching the waters and could see several BIG trips right below me in about 10' of water. They would cruise by, check out the PB and continue on their way. I tried everything while I was there, and nothing worked. From there we trolled the WR & pop gear west & got a 6" koke. Then buzzed over to the north side and worked the bank back to the launch throwing the rooster tail. No luck. Battery died, so I put the canoe in the truck about 6:30, then went about 100' north of the launch and casted lures off a log until 8. One nice hard hit, but that was it. I talked to a few others, and nobody I talked to was having very good luck. Think the trips are starting to get wise. When I left, there were lots rising on the east side, they started about 6.
