Another cool day at RW.
Cindy and I went fishing on RW today, We tried four different spots, and caught fish in three of the four spots. We had to go deeper and slower today to entice strikes.
The steering was frozen up when we first started out, so we dropped the troller (bow mount) cast out a B-2 on a 1/8 oz jig head, and trolled up the right side shoreline while waiting for the cables to slide. In less than 1/4 mile we had two fish to the boat (released), and 3-4 hits. The largest around 3#. Cables warmed up, so we head up 4-5 miles and try again. Instead of catching fish in the shallow water, we were getting hots in 20-30 ft of water . In the deeper water fish seemed to be holding at around the 30 ft mark. Marked several fish throughout the day. Went up to the lower most pens. Hooked several and boated a limit each. A pair of 7# and a pair of 5# . Water temp 36-38 cold degrees.
Saw deer, eagles, a coyote, and an otter while on the river. A cold but good adventure.Fish can be caught but the technique may need to be adjusted a bit from when the water was warmer.

Those who venture out, prepare and be safe

Hey Guys
That pic is an "unsuccessful" attempt at self photography, but the best this day. Set the camera on the front of the boat, aim it towards the back, set the timer and presto. Cut off the heads of the subjects. It was windy (waves) and was having trouble getting the frame right.
Malottguy, buy tackle in Wenatche, and order some stuff online. Not much here in Chelan.
Hey Big D, still watching the water for ya. We'll fish the same spots someday. It's a "cool" trip when it's breezy and in the teens and twenty's. My fishin Pard says she'll be glad when the weather improves, Things don't work as well in these temps. The stearing on the boat is extremely stiff to frozen up when we put in, takes awhile for the motor compartment to warm up enough to make the cables work. But the cables are many years old and probably need to be replaced.
Yo BB
The lower most pens are "Approximately" 25 miles up river from the Chief Joe dam. Not sure how far from Seatons Grove. I've never GPS the distance, just a guesstimate. And little by little is a great way to do so on a large body of water. There are so many Hot Spots along the length of this water, it can produce fish in any number of places. It's just hard for me to explore when we have some spots tat work for us.
Hey Jens, don't hesitate to come on over if you get the chance. It is a great body of water. Last trip out we saw deer, eagles, a coyote, and an otter. pretty cool stuff

Makes me wish I lived over in that area everytime I see a report on this lake with monster trips all the time......guess I'll just try for some holdovers in the lakes around here......Nice catches there!

Have You tried trolling a B2 squid behind a 000 Dodger?

Hi there S.I.-816, Not all trips produce the "monster" fish on RW but it's always a great adventure. The chances of picking up some good sized fish are pretty good, but as with any body of water, location and technique (plus a little luck) is what puts those fish in the boat.
We have days when it is hard for us to put sizable fish in the boat, but a fat 10-14" trout looks pretty good in the frying pan. Also, Size is relative, some lakes we fish a 12 incher would be a good fish, and we're thrilled for the chance to do battle with them, so go out there and pull on some of those hold overs.
NDN, I haven't tried the dodger set-up. I wonder if the 000 dodger would be large enough, the squid pulls quite abit on retrieve.

Went out today around 100PM, and got three (wife 2, me 1) for the smoker. Fish seemed to be holding at about twenty feet down 40-70 feet of water.May have to rest tomorrow.

Yeah, I think I am going to have to make a day trip back over after my Stellhead trip next month, Oh, the boss is not going to be happy with me... I am going to try out the B-2 in pink for Humpies this year. I will be ordering them on line. Blufin, You need any more B-2s. I can pick them up and bring them with me on the way. Just let me know. Email me if you still have my address.

Hey SK, Those poor Humpies won't know what's hit them when you blast the water with a "Pink" B-2. The B-2 sure look good on retrieve, be sure to let us know the results.
Bet they'll work. Thanks for thinking of me (b-2s), but I just got a supply in. Should be set for a while.
