I have been waiting and waiting for Rufus to light back up.. well I can say it is getting better even though the water is still coooolld.. Went up Sunday just to check it out not really expecting to catch fish but to do a little experimenting with new Flies and lures that I have been working on..
To my surprize the first 1 1/2 hours I caught and released 6 on the fly..Alot of small fish were hitting the fly so I thought to go to a bigger presentation to avoid the little guys..Put on a 1/4 oz spooon (Little Cleo In Gold) and while stripping it out to my 125ft behind the boat I got hit!!! Boated this one tipping the scales at over 5lbs. Kept this fish and proceeded to let the lure back again and didnt troll for 5 minutes and was hooked up again..another respectable 4lber but released this fish unharmed..Now I am looking for" Walter" since the bigger fish like the spoon better than the fly..

I decided to head up the reservoir just above Pump 4 and hit a spot where larger trout seem to hold, not as many but usually when you get bit it is a larger critter..Trolled here for 15 min. and got bit.. A little guy... released ..stripped it back out again and banged another nice 17 incher..proceeded to troll the shoreline again weaving in tight and swinging outward and got a dandy hit.decided that this was going to be the end of my day if I boated this fish..ended up being right at 5 lbs..

I got back to the launch at 10:00am..Loaded the boat and was back in Chelan by 11:15 am..So I considered this trip a good one but I have been getting reports from friends that this is how it has been..One day you bang um and the next day dead..One of the sayings that I learned from my Father years ago was "Chicken one day Feathers the Next"..Thats Fishing...Fell free to contact me on questions or comments...

Hey Joe,
Thanks for the report.
My daughter gets back from Iraq the third week of March. I got an email from her just the other day that stated
"Dad, all I want to do is catch some fish when I get home" Me and my daughter will be on RW soon.

Joe,

Great to see that things are picking uo down at Rufus Woods. I'm still banging away with the Ice fishing. Just started fishing up at Deer Lake for "lakers". Read my report and share any of that "fish whisperer" wisdom that you have. John and Johnnie both say hi!

Joe, Glad to see you did O.K. at R.W., Melanie and I are really excited at the prospect of fishing Chelan with you on Sunday, How is the launch near the can line? Lots of snow? We have an all-wheel drive Outback, Melanie and I were thinking of cartopping the canoe with the 4 h.p. there on Sat. , the day before we see you. Our other option is the channel you suggested at Lake Chelan, we'll be fishing in front of Cambell's on Friday if we get checked in with enough time. Tight lines!
