It was snowing in the morning when I woke up but the weather report for the Eloika area was for sunshine so I decided to go out and catch a few perch. Sure enough, the closer I got to the lake, the sky was starting to clear up. Went out from the public launch and I was the only one on the lake. Went to my favorite area and drilled a couple of holes. The ice was still a foot and half out in the middle of the lake. The ice along the shore line was still ok too. Caught about 20 perch and kept a dozen. Did not catch any crappies or bass and also no pickerel. The last couple of times I went out, I couldn't keep the pickerel off the hook They were a nuisance. The fish bite was sporadic and initially, the fish were biting extremely lightly. I got a lot of bites but couldn't keep them on the hook. Later in the day, the fish became more aggressive. It was a beautiful day to be out of the house.

Those pickerel are a pain, but they may be the only thing keeping the perch population in check. I don't think we can catch enough perch to dent the population.

Based on the weather today and the next few days forecast, we'll have a lot more ice fishing time. Probably will go out on Wednesday again. We won't be doing any flyfishing for a while.

stigman87 - I have been fishing the lake pretty regularly this past winter so I probably ran across you on the ice at some point unless you fish out of Jerry's Landing as I have been sticking to the public launch area. Apparently you are a resident on the lake so in your opinion, do you think the fishing is better out of Jerry's place or the south end of the lake? I have heard that more crappies are caught out of Jerry's.
