Julie and I decided it was time to give Rufus a try. We packed or gear and grub, loaded the car topper, hooked up the trailer and off we went. We spent 3 cold windy days on Rufus fishing for hours without a bite. We trolled, jigged, used bait on top and on bottom and nothing seemed to work. We fished about every nock and cranney from the Dam upstream 10 miles waiting for hours between strikes. Allthough we limited all three days it was not the Rufus I have grown to know and love. Talking with other anglers all having the same luck it sounds like the water temperature is way to cold. Not to worry, we'll be back the 5th of May. Score one for Blufin Loui. Julie jigged one of Blufin's pink and white hand tied maribou jigs and caught the big one of the weekend. Thanks Lewis.

Hey Stamp...I know we're about a month behind so far as the average water temp goes...but perhaps the 'cold, windy days' did not help much either in this case. I know sometimes it can really pin the fatties down on the bottom as an unsettled low prx system moves through...especially if they're already lethargic due to cold water temps. The bottom line is it wasn't your time to catch fish...however, nothing can take the quality time you and Julie shared, away! -Mav

Stamp. Here's a little note; According to my Rick Taylors Astro Lunar moon table guide- Sunday thru this week was rated in the teens on a scale of 1 to 100. Some people don't believe in the moon tables. But I have compiled a 10 year spread sheet covering my fishing success and by and large, I catch many, many more fish on the days rated above 40 on my lunar scale. Sometimes coditions dictate success, but according to these charts, the 22nd of April thru the end of the month should be better fishing, with the 25th and 26th being rated in the 80's on my scale. Sorry Scottpratt - the pic did not make it. I uploaded a picture of Julie holding her day's catch with the biggest being 3.4 lbs. I reduced the size of the picture to about 300 kbs but for some reason it didn't get posted. I'll post her pic on the forum later this evening.

Hello stampie, Thanks for the great report. Sounds like the two of you had a good time regardless of the weather. A 3.4 lb Trout for Julie sounds pretty respectable from what I’ve been seeing lately. All of ours have been less than 2 lbs in the last couple of weeks.
