This was one of those days. We guessed right early and put 2 double digit Landlocked Chinook in the boat before 8AM. What a great day. One Chinook hit a whole herring rigged to spin. The other hit a wide bodied spoon. They were fished 250 feet out on a 24 ounce snap weight at 1.4 mph. The lakers mostly pounded purple glow flatfish within 10 feet of the bottom. They were also fished at about 1.4 mph. The weather was spectacular and supposed to get better. What a magical morning.

Hi: WDFW had an early opener on April 15th. One Chinook per person with a 15" minimum size limit. It should stay open year round now. The regional bio had intended on having it stay open year round starting May 1st of 2008.

Hey AntonJ, Thanks for the great report & photos. I just got the riggers on my boat. More how-to's & why-for's on the Chinooks if you please.

We have gotten most of our Chinook off the snap weights rather than the riggers. We are fishing about 1.4 or 1.5 mph pulling wide-bodied spoons or whole herring off of a 24 ounce snap weight. The formula that produced 2 quick fish Saturday morning was 250 feet of line to the ball and another 100 feet to the lure. That should have put me down about 140 to 150 feet over a 215' to 225' bottom. After boating those 2 quick fish, I got one laker with about 2.5 hours of effort with the same combination.

Tight Lines,
Anton
