Living just minutes from samish I can't help but fish it pretty regularly. I love trolling, and am a big time salmon angler so when I'm not out chasing bigger fair I often find myself hunting "trophy" trout. I've heard tale that Samish has some monster cutties, and even seen pictures of a few.... but thus far they have evaded me. I have been hitting the lake pretty hard since early March after picking up my new (old) boat with no real success to speak of. We've been running downriggers at all the depths, mostly with homemade bead spinners and spin-n-glow crawler harnesses, but some needlefish and flatfish attempts too.... Fished the north end of the lake fairly hard with essentially no luck at all, and spent a fair amount of time creeping aroudn the south end of the lake as well with similar results, other than the ocasional suspended perch or chub (honestly more worthy of a laugh than anything else, I had never seen a fish in freshwater blow out in the eyes and bladder until my buddy pulled a 12" perch from 60' of water). So far, no big trout... although I suspect they do exist. Last year around this time I managed a 1.5 rainbow near the channel at the north end but that story is basically all but a fairy tale at this point. About a week ago myself and two friends were out downriggin again and got one really good takedown near the southwest side of the main lake across from the boat launch in about 40' of water with a green bead spinner/worm harness down 20'. No sooner than my partner could grab the rod the fish popped through my 6 lb leader like it was nothing.... have since upgraded all my leaders to 8lb and started trolling with snubbers on everything.... No luck still, but I'm not going to quit.... I know samish has the trophy tout I'm looking for an basically the key at this point is going to have to be persistance.

Based on the reports I've been reading from 8theB8 it looks like maybe I'd be better off to become a bass fisherman!! haha!

Tight lines.
