Arrived at the lake approx 6:30AM and launched from the 3rd boat launch. It had been 2 years since my last trip to this lake and previous experience fishing Spada has taught me that as the sun comes over the surrounding mountains, the fish head for the bottom.
Using a portable fish finder, I discovered that this end of the lake seemed to be fairly deep so using a lead core line helped getting down and being able to control the depth.
Fish mostly seemed to be holding between 25-35 feet down in amongst the stumps which litter the lake's bottom.
Caught and released 17 Cutthroat trout ranging between 10-13 inches. Caught 3 fish on a Black Woolley Worm fly, 3 fish on a Green Carey Special and 11 fish on a Black Egg-Sucking Leech.
Caution should be exercised because when the wind starts blowing, it generally is quite brisk and can generate wave action and possibly white caps as it did today ending my fishing about 2PM.
