I've fished Lake Boren all this year through August. July and June weren't productive as the lake is so small, get's so much pressure and gets warm too quickly. April and May were the peak times at Boren Lake. I started fishing it in the end of March, and had great luck throwing Kastmasters, Wedding Rings, and Blue Foxes to the surface when the trout were jumping from the main dock and the little opening in the little bay on the Coal Creek Parkway side. Powerbait worked best at the little bay to the right of the main dock, as it is so shallow, the fish are just out of casting range. Best Powerbaits were the Chartreuse and Pink Lemonade. I got a Sevylor Fish Hunter 9'2" boat in the end of April, and started trolling on the Coal Creek Parkway road side, halfway or closer to the shore from the middle of the lake. I never caught one on the house side to the left of the docks, caught a few near the small far dock, a few on the last couple houses on the end of the lake, but about !
80% of the fish taken were on the road side between the dock and the trees. Had great success every time I went out until about the middle of June, when the lake is about fished out. Got skunked once in August. I favored the Green Wedding Ring with a Silver blade, trolling at various depths. Other great lures included Blue Foxes and Kastmasters, but the Green Wedding Ring accounted for most of the bites, and fishing time too. Caught mostly Rainbows, and a few Cuttbows (Crossbreed of Cutthroats and Rainbows) These cuttbows here are skinny, but tasty. I only kept 1, and let go about 5 or 6. These fish are native so I try to help their population by practicing catch and release. The trout here hit lures hard, jump a lot and run nicely, producing a good fight. They are very aggressive and stay on the hook well. I went out to Lake Boren about 10 times and averaged about 3 fish in about 2 hours fishing. I caught about 30 or so throughout the year, probably could have caught more, but I favored trolling as it is the most fun and the fish hit the lure hard.
