Launched at DNR around 10am. Started trolling on top in front of pads when the old man hooks into something big. It ripped 50 feet of line off the reel before he even got to the rod. A few hard head shakes and she headed down into the thick stuff. To make a long story short he put the strain on her for about 15 minutes, but she would not budge. 8 pound floro leader ended up snapping, and now it is just a fish story. Wish we could of seen her. We caught a few dink smallies on top and then broke out the downriggers. We were marking fish in 30-40 feet, and suspected they might be trout. Ended up catching two bows, 2.5 and 3 pounds. Good on the BBQ. We doubled up one time, and left two floating squawfish shortly after. Anyone have any tips for the trout on this lake? The when, how, and where stuff. We will try again when the water starts to cool.

No, I don't think it was a carp. It was a head shaker. I think a largie came out of the grass to snatch the minnow and then went straight back down. We could have got her out if we had the proper heavy gear (rod & line).

Hmmm....possibly a Pike? What did you use to pick up the trout? I haven't figured out the trout on Long either but they are in there.

I think a pike would have broke us off much sooner (floro C. leader). We were pulling some various minnow hard baits. I have been told to troll the 1st drop along the steep side of the lake between the DNR launch and the dam. I don't know, guess I will have to put in my time. Nice rainbows, wish we could have got a couple limits.
