Today I had the opportunity to fish with the legendary Blufin loui! I cannot begin to say enough as to what a kind, knowledgable, gracious host he is. The water temp. was approx. 38 degrees & air temp. pretty much the same. It rained thruout most of the day. We spent the most of the day at the lower pens. The fish must have heard Blufin was on the water because they were hidin'. I'm telling you Blufin worked his boat around the pens in search of fish like a detective on a hot case. But the fish wouldn't have any thing to do with us. Under Blufins tutalige & tackle box(both of which were wide open to me) we tried numerous offerings all morning without a bite. I had a few jigs I had tied trying to copy some from Blufins blog. He told me,"Those look fishy." So I started using a black maribu 1/16th Oz. with a black head with white eyes. Around 1PM Loui missed the first bite of the day. Soon after that I missed a light tap. Still, not enough action to keep us there. As we were moving out to try trolling I managed to set hook on a nice little one. We trolled for an hour or so with only one light tap on a frog colorred hot shot. All hopes of some water movement & fish activity were on a downhill slide. The rain had quit by late afternoon & we headed down lake to try by pump #3.Nothin' doin' there either. We finished out the day by pump #1. And a nice finish to the day it was. Pictured above with the 8 pounder! It was bitter sweet though. Just prior to my hooking this one, Blufin loui had set hook on a large enough fish that his jig broke. At first he thought he'd been taking knot tying lessons from me but, not so.(LOL) He still had the eye of the jig tied on the end of his line! It broke right at the lead head! As you can see I managed to get a picture of a good captain that put me on my best fish this year. The day was a FIVE in my book but, I have to rate the fishing only a three. In talking with others it was slow...

Thanks for the report; I'm looking forward to the photos. I bet the broken jig was caused by "Mr. Fish" or one of his progeny... I heard that he's been seen carrying a set of needle nose pliers.

Big D, I think you're on to somethin' there because, Blufin just shrugged his shoulders and said,"they've done that to me before."

Great report and those fish are tricky. Though good to see some of the fish moved downriver now. BluFin is a hoot to fish with and VERY gracious.

Hey guys, I need to get some stronger hooks, else try to stay away from the "Pliers toting" fish. LOL. Even though I smelled of skunk it was an enjoyable day on the water, and I didn't even knock off the one fish brought to the boat when I netted it. Great job AFK on your light line, light jig work. It is amazing to catch them on the lighter outfits. Hope your family enjoyed your fish story. Be safe and we'll see ya on the water someday.

Hey Malottguy, to say Blufin is VERY gracious is an understatement! I'm still in awe as to the spectacular day on the water with him.

afk I agree without doubt. Now if I can just get some time to go fishing. I would be a happy camper.
