Went to Leland for some possible trout action. Hopefully a bass too along the way. Trolled the lake from one end to the other with a wedding ring (red/green Macks lure) and worm. One had one small hook-up, but it flopped off. Could have been a crappie and tore the paper thin mouth. Friend tried casting and trolling a castmaster (perch color) and had only a few small hits.

I have pretty much written this lake off my list. The water is getting rather polluted with algae and later in the year will most likely be posted with a health warning to not eat the fish. Have had some luck with perch on this lake in the past and caught a nice rainbow before, but that was years ago.

Anybody know the secret to crappie on this lake?

Leland is getting so horrible. I remember we used to camp there now and then. Also fished it often with my daughter when we lived in Pt Townsend. Very sad how it is now.

Only good thing about the algae problem is it seems to have made the panfishing a little better on this lake. The perch that I've got in years past have always been small but seems from myself and others, their size has gotten larger. Might be from cycles not sure. But right now crappie you want to just use crappie jigs out in the deeper water. During summer sometimes you'll see them feeding on top before sundown, seen it a couple times up by the pads area. Hopefully it gets a little warmer here, might go there next week but I might try another lake I haven't tried for bass and crappie that opens up this weekend that supposedly has crappie.
