Two of us fished 5/8/10 10:30am to 4:00pm on Cascade Lake, Orcas Island.
This was our first outing for this season. Beautiful day, but windy on the lake as Cascade usually is.

We fish catch and release almost weekly throughout each season and use various bass lures and techniques, but. I vowed to try some different baits this season and learn some largemouth bass techniques that are popular elsewhere. So my first fish of the season was on a Rapala Countdown Husky Jerk, bass pattern. Small LMB.

Second hook-up was on a 4" chartreuse Storm internally weighted paddle tail plastic minnow. Boated a 14.5" probably full of eggs. Released her so she could spawn and be caught another day.

Tried a bunch of other lures/crank baits to no avail.

Then tied on a new Matzuo green/gold/bass crankbait. Lost another 2-3 pound LMB. Rolled it and saw its sides...then it was gone.

After lunch in the boat we decided to target trout. One of us lost five, including a hefty cutthroat at boat side when the strong winds turned the boat sharpely just as we were preparing to net the fish. It was caught on a Mack's blood red wedding ring with nightcrawler. I lost four and boated one small trout on a silver and chartruese Little Cleo.

Fun day as usual, except the throlling motor battery lost its charge and we limped back to the boat ramp.
