Started the day off with breakfast at the Swinging Doors and made it to the lake around 10am. Only about 5 other guys on the lake. Noted that the wind was from the East....not usually a good sign. But hey, ya gotta go fishing when you can right?

Rowed the pontoon boat over to the south side and located fish with the finder. Most between 17 and 21ft. Went to the down with chronomids and waited....and waited. Huh? Started swapping colors and finally started getting very very light hits on #14 green chronomids. Bite lasted about 45 minutes. Tried pumping a few stomachs to see what the meal of the day was...no luck until one of my last rainbows pucked up a hand full of snails and dark mustard colored scuds. Not a single chronomid to be found. Well, no wonder I was having a tough day. A total of 8 nice bows between 14" to 18".

Headed down towards the East end of the lake for a change of scenery and see if the cutthroats were hitting along the shore when I noticed what looked like an otter or a beaver headed across the lake. As it got closer I could hear it huffing and puffing and could tell that it was a badger. It seemed like a nice "nature" moment until it changed direction and headed right for my pontoon boat! Well, before I could pull up my anchor, it was actually climbing up on the rear of my boat! As I was trying to get an oar loose to whack it, it dropped back into the water and swam to shore. My adrenaline was so high I could actually taste it in my mouth.

With the badger experience, slow fishing, the wind starting to really whip up and the clouds looking real nasty.......I called it day.

Wow, a badger, that's incredible! I've had some close calls with snakes out there in the past, but the thought of a badger climbing onto my pontoon freaks me out! Glad that all worked out for you! I fished Medical this same day and found it to be much slower than usual, too. Lots of bumps and taps with few hookups. P.S I'm not a real big fan of an east wind either, it can often make for a long, tough day.
