I hit the lake early and only brought big baits n' lures hoping that even if I only got a couple fish that they would be Hawgs. I've been trying to force myself to gain confidence in different techniques by only fishing one or two techniques a day. ( Flippin' n' Pitchin', Cranks n' Spinners, Swimbaits n' topwater etc.) Its starting to pay off. I caught a 4+ lb and two 5+lb bass Flippin' deep weed flats. I caught 7 others but' they were all under 3'lb. I still can't seem to land those 6 to 8lb fish like the 11 I caught in March/ April but I'm trying. That must have been a lucky streak. I've pitched some 10" worms and watched my line move off but, each time they broke me off on the hookset. It was with 30lb braid using a uni to uni knot and fluro leader. Anyone know how I can fix the break offs? It seems like it breaks the fluro line in front of the knot with no damage to the knot or braid. Anyway, hopefully my pics show up. See you on the water!

Nice fish. I got to get up there as soon as my rehab on shoulder is ready.
As for your breaking problems. When ever you tie mono to braid the braid will cut through the mono if there is a line to line pressure point. I would have thought that a double uni knot would work, but try using a double surgeons knot.
Personally, I just use a small swivel.
Hope this helps you and keep the reports coming.

Use 20-25lb flouro as your main line. no need for a leader and so long as you keep it nick free flouro will never break. or just use straight braid. if you're in heavy cover the leader doesn't make much difference anyways. either way if you're using a technique that involves a big hookset i would ditch the leader for sure.

I use the flouro leader because the braid is too visible to the fish. I've noticed that I get less bites tying straight to braid. I like the swivel idea, and definitely going to try the 20-25lb flouro too. Keep the tips coming. Thanks guys!

Wow great job! 2 five lber and 1 four plus you can't ask for more. On top of that you caught 11 bass over 6 lbs, it is a successful year so far.

One trick that works great for me when flipping with straight braid is to use a Sharpie marker pen to color the line black from your lure to about 3 feet up the braid. Or, some braids also come in a blackish color, like Spiderwire Stealth, and don't be afraid to jump to 50lb! I have broken 30lb myself, but have never had trouble with 50lb. Great report, very informative, keep it up!
