Well I talked myself into trying to bag a coho out of Lake Washington as the reports out of the Sound and local rivers were less than stellar. I started fishing near Evergreen Point around 10:00am trolling a green metallic rattle hot shot 30’ down off the rigger. The weather was in a constant state of flux and for the fist 2 hours squalls were coming from the south on a regular basis. I had a vicious strike about 20 minutes into my trolling and it turned out to be a nice fat 3lb cutt, not what I was gunning for but I’ll take it. The weather cleared up for a bit and got quite warm and with that the wind picked up as well. I concentrated my efforts around Evergreen Point, Hunt’s Point and Yarrow Bay areas. Fished various depths and varied speeds between dead slow and 4mph. I didn’t manage any other fish for the rest of my time out and didn’t see anyone else bring one in either. By the time I packed it up the wind was blowing between 20 and 25mph and it was a rough ride back to the launch. I did fish the north side of 520 for about half an hour and marked 3 distinct sets of fish at various depths. I targeted the deeper fish in the 100’ to 120’ range to no avail. Surface temps were still fairly warm and varied between 65 and 67 degrees.

I'd like to learn how to target the Lk Wa salmon. Thanks for the green plug idea and locations. I tried the north end of the lake, St Ed's and north, I'm really a novice at this one though, tried a flasher and ace hi for a bit then tried just a spoon, no flasher, green. rigger and different depths, speed.

Mark, I'm no expert on Lake Washington Coho either. The last one we boated came of a hootchie two years ago. Also had one next to the boat that we lost and that one took a spoon. Reports from several years back indicated that bare hooks and a dodger worked. I'll give that a try a little later on in the season once the fish are schooled up and a bit more territorial.

If I take a different approach: target the searun cutts, I might come up with a coho. :) That cutt deserves better than a one rating but looking at the weather, I can see why you chose a 1. Keep that line wet!

Nice catch again , I have tried fishing the coho on that lake a few times my self in the past and no luck ! I talked to a few guys out there last year and they said the indians net the lake .

In the old days Buzz bombs would work around Arrowhead Point

Bare red hooks and chrome dodgers work very well for sockeye when that fishery is open. I do quite well using coho killer spoons with hot spot flashers for the silvers. I also shorten the leaders quite a bit and use lots of scent.
