Fished around Marsh Island, near UW. Caught one 1 lb LMB and one 2 lb LMB, hooked but lost another small one. Tossed the white rooster tail along the shoreline, in front of the reeds. Got 2 fish. Was stupid and tried to snag a crawdad on the bottom but ended up snapping two lines and losing two lures. :( Not even sure why i tried that. Next time I'd probably use something with a weedless hook since I had to free up about 3 snags since there were so many submerged logs.

I think I'm going to head out there late today, although I rarely have much luck on the island. Whereabouts are they biting?

Along the north shore of Marsh Island. By boat is best, but the docks give decent access to hiding spots too. White Rooster Tail w/ Silver blade, 1/4 oz. running about about 2-3 feet below the surface with a very slow retrieve speed. It's getting colder so they'll be moving a lot slower. As winter comes around they'll get slow to the point of not biting soon. Be careful of the submerged structures though cuz they are very easy to get hung up on the wood down there. I almost had to go in and swim about 3 times.

Got a dinker largemouth today (~8 inches) in the same area. Used a black 1/4 oz. Rooster Tail at about 1-2 feet deep this time. Then snagged it on a log on the bottom two casts later. :( That's three rooster tails gone in 2 days for me. Save yourself the money and use a weedless setup if you're fishing from land.

I went out yesterday and used a white spinner. I had what looked to be a two pounder slam it from the side ... and miss the bait. I then hit a couple smaller ones before switching to a flashy 5-10 foot crankbait. The only reason I was able to try this is because the weeds had disappeared in that stretch of water. I like using crankbaits more than spinners because they have a better chance of a hook set.

There was a big school of perch between the large dock and marsh island so I figured there were more hogs out there. A few casts later something big hit my lure from under the dock. He fought hard all the way ... weighed him at 3 pounds 3 ounces. There are some big fish around there. But I didn't land or see anything after that so maybe they were following the perch?

Awesome! Hmm, you're right about the crankbait. The weeds are dying off and the water level rose in the past few days due to rain. With my luck and those spiky lures, i think I better stay with a weedless setup. Nice job on the 3+ pounder! Gotta get me one too someday. :)
