A good friend wanted to take his two boys to ice fish for perch. We went for breakfast first, which was good and bad....good because there were two bad wrecks just before Coles Corner, and our delay allowed the roads to thaw. Bad because, as is typical, the bite was a little slow when we started fishing at about eleven or so. But it wasn't all bad...we managed to scratch out enough perch for a couple fish fry's. The bite was lighter than usual, so I found that 6 pound flouro on a TonyBean Daiwa 6 footer was a beneficial experiment for me. The ice was still satisfactory. However, it was quite warm (in the high 30's) and rain was coming. There was about 6 inches of slush on top of the ice, which made the going a workout without snowshoes....I'm glad I had mine but felt bad my partner didn't have his. The boys were troopers...the youngest rode in the sled, and the oldest walked the whole way out and in...and neither of them complained once. The Fish Lake mayor said they received about a foot of snow during the week, which didn't help the slush. And the heavy rain last night and today, coupled with warm air, is probably going to make it a dicey proposition for awhile. The boys had a nice nap on the way home, so overall it was a very good trip.

I love that 6lb florocarbon line for leader. As for brands, Vanish seems to degrade after just a year or quicker if exposed to salt I won't be buying that any longer. Still experimenting with other brands or if its just coated or 100% florocarbon. I think it's 100% 6 lb P-line that looks clearest to me in a glass of water....
I'm hoping the weather cools considerable in the next few days to give us another shot at solid ice on Fish!
