We showed up on Saturday and decided that the wind was gusting (as it often does on this lake) too much to fish enjoyably. So we decided to head into Leavenworth and return on Sunday, MayDay! What a great choice! The sun was out, no wind, perfect day for Fish Lake. We set out in our boat and trolled to the east end of the lake. I put on a Chartreuse Hot Shot and the BF put on a Roostertail of the same color. It was slow at first but the Hot Shot stole the show. I was yanken' them in. After only 1 hit the BF decided to switch to a green Hot Shot and had more success. We did notice that these trout were light biters, we were lippin' em. But it made for an exciting day. We did notice the Osprey were fishing too, which was quite exciting to watch! We headed in after about 3 hours with about 8 fish. At that time it was amazing to see all the fish rising on the lake. What a beautiful lake- we didn't want to go home!

Hello Jordan- there are a few streams that filter into Fish Lake and there are Brook Trout lurking in there, close to the surface. They are fairly small but have great flavor. The German Browns that you speak of like to gather on the bottom of the lake and in the shallows, toward the reeds. I grew up on this lake, my parents had a cabin here and I remember the Browns having size to them but not that great for eating. Spring is a great time to fish here because the mosquito herds are not out just yet, ha ha. When the mosquitoes aren't biting you, they are getting eaten by the fish- so it can be miserable during the summer. A great tip for avoiding those nasty buggers- take Vitamin B4/ 4x a day for 3 days prior to your fishing trip and 4x a day while you are there. Its water soluble so it won't hurt you and the mosquitoes don't like it. Also avoid dark clothing and bananas. Good Luck!
