Not much to report here other than that fish can be caught when it's pouring rain. The evening started out looking good until the entire western sky filled with rain clouds. Caught two small LMB on the fly rod after sunset. Got several other bites but couldn't set the hook properly. The LMB in the picture was about 6 inches long. Will use a bigger fly next time. Keep forgeting to take the picture at a different angle...

Looks like a rock bass.

Actually, I've found they are more likely to be caught in rain or just before, especially if there is a lightning storm coming. Many times I've had to tear myself from fish after fish to get to safety in time. And urban looks to be right, I think. Looks like fun on a flyrod.

Yeah, I thought it was a rock bass at first too because of its small size. However, what convinced me it was a baby LMB was the black eyes, the green upper and white lower body with the dark band running down the lateral line. Rock bass have red eyes, a brownish body and a noticeable black spot on their gill, kinda like where a bluegill has a blue one. All of those characteristics were absent on this fish and the second one. Oh well, when fishing I'll take any bass. Just glad to catch something after getting thoroughly soaked.

You got the rain we just received here in Yakima. I'll bet you were soaked!! I'm with you, a bass is a bass!

@fishinChristian: Dude, it rained so hard last night two rivers started flowing into the lake from the baseball field.

that does not look like a rock bass... mouth is way bigger, it is a lot more long and slender than short and round, the fins are shaped differently.. definitely a largemouth bass without question.. gj man, is the parking lot open at night or do you just park on the street? i've been wanting to try bitter lake at night one of these days.

The parking lot is accessible until at least 10pm at night, possibly longer and has sufficient lighting to feel relatively safe. The lily pads are popping up on the southern end , which is approximately where I caught the two little LMB. If you want access to the big ones, a boat might be necessary to get to the private docks. Then again, I've only fished for bass with flies and not large lunker lures. Some nice sized ones were caught out of here about a month ago (see previous reports).
