Our annual family trip out to Blue Lake was a bit damp and extra windy and I was only able to fish Sunday morning before breaking camp and heading back home. My father and I were able to pick up limits of nice sized holdovers in about 3 hours of fishing. We lost just about as many fish due to their feisty nature and trying to horse them to the boat while keeping my father’s sled on track. The fish seemed to be favoring the deeper water of the south end and preferred chartreuse and perch colored lures. Most fish were taken between 15 and 20 feet down in 30 to 50 feet of water trolling stacked bead spinners and kokanee killers. The wind vanished for the last half hour we fished and that seemed to bring the fish to the surface allowing us to pick up a few trolling a small needlefish with a single splitshot for weight. We didn’t hook into any fresh planters Sunday and the holdovers we picked up ranged to 18” and were nice and fat. I suspect that the fishing will be off the charts if you can get out on this lake after the weather stabilizes. Gotta plug Blue Lake Resort on the south end of the lake. Still just $22 a night for full hookups and wi-fi, fishing information/tips and boat launch/moorage included.
