With an eye to finding bluegill up shallow or perhaps rainbows in the same general area, my son and I hit Kitsap about 10:30. We got to the lake about the same time as the rain, which continued until just before we left at 3:00.

Water temp varied between 58 and 59 degrees. There was some breeze to accompany the sometimes-hard rain. We cast minijigs to weedbeds, docks and shore with no takers, and when that didn't produce even a follow, we changed over to trolling, using a small spoon and three different crankbaits. I had one maybe strike on a small, silver Rebel crawdad--usually a good trout lure. That was it.

Perhaps if we had downriggers and our trout tackle we might have done better, but... There was a hatch of very small black caddis coming off, and the swallows were reaping the benefits. However, in that time we only saw four or five fish rise.

Definitely a cold, wet day for spring.
