Hit Newman Lake on Friday afternoon with dougw. Turned out to be a pretty good afternoon, for Doug at least! After spending the first part of his afternoon recovering a rod he lost to the bottom of the lake a few days earlier Doug landed a 34 inch Muskie. I met up with him a short while later and it wast too long before I was in to an approx. 40 inch fish. We watched her take the bait near the surface and take off. She wen't on a few good runs and I finally her her to the boat when with one last ditch effort she went straight to the bottom and broke off my 50lb braid. Story of my life! Lol

About 3 casts later to pretty much the exact same spot while I'm fixing my broken line Dougs got a fish on. Not a bad fish either. Watching him bring it in it looked about 40 also. Man was I hoping to see my lure poking out of the corner of her mouth just for some closure on how big my fish was. No such luck though. He landed the fish like he has so many others and she ended up going 39x16.

In the following minutes we ended up with three other good follows but no takers.

Not a bad day. And after my last two outings I guess I know how important sharp hooks, a GOOD hook set, long heavy leaders, and good heavy un-freyed line is.

Hey Mark I have an idea. You can jump in my boat and we'll leave Doug at home. That way neither on of us has to watch him catch another Musky. If one makes it in the boat it will be ALL OURS. I'm ready for another one. Happy Fishing

What is it they say, "You can lead a horse to water...." Thanks Mark for being a great net guy! You're due Mark. You will likely put your fish in the boat during the tournament. Craig and I have used up our luck in the past week! And just to think, people think I am crazy using the heavy line and long leaders.... There is a method to my madness! I think it pays to use fluorocarbon in most lakes with reasonable water clarity. After scuba diving Newman for my fishing rod, I am not so sure Newman is a lake you need fluorocarbon.... Water clarity is not there. I couldn't see my fingers when I extended my arm, the water was that murky. I think steel leaders would be a better choice. Am I going to switch? Probably not.... Those words will likely haunt me some day.

I think the way that goes is, "You can lead a horse to water, and you can hand him a rod with the right lure, but you can't make him catch a tiger musky".
