Not a bad evening on Newman Lake. It started out a bit slower than it has for us recently. The last three times out I had a fish on within minutes. This time it took about an hour and a half to get into one. After a nice fight we landed a healthy 38.5 incher. Not long after that I hooked into one that dwarfed the one we just netted. Looked about mid 40's and was just taking line at will. Get her up beside the boat once and we couldn't net her. She took off around the front of the boat and that was it. She threw the hook. Man that's frustrating, it's the 2nd 40+ I've lost in 2 weeks! Oh, well. It wasn't 5 minutes after that I watched another fish crush my bait about 10 feet from the boat! Got another decent fight and we netted another Tiger, this one going 38". We continued fishing and my buddy hooked and lost a sub 30 fish. It didn't take him too long to get into another fish though. About a half hour later he boated the final fish of the night at 28". Pretty decent trip though! 4.5 hours and we hooked up with 5 fish and landed 3!

There are a lot of people out there that need to be educated a little though. The first fish we got there was a guy fishing around us who came over and was trying to convince us to keep the "Pike". Then the last fish we got as we were unhooking in front of a house and a couple was telling us to knock it on the head. Too bad...

Last time on Mayfield I had a lady yelling "kill that thing. They eat the ducklings!" It inspired me. I wanted to catch a duckling and put it on a "leash!" (no, I didn't do it!)
Nice fish.

its funny that ppl try to get us fisher men to do stuff that they wont even do themselves. why would u kill a top tier predator because its eating the " cute lil duckies"? u do realize that those duckes do make up a small portion of the diet of those big fish , but not enough that they r gonna go extinct anytime soon. get over it ppl they r animals doin what animals do. stop trying to change what mother nature has already perfected

Did you tell those people that the Tiger is a trophy fish for catch and release only? It's tough sometimes to "educate" people in the heat of the moment but I hope you took that opportunity.

Oh ya CarpMouth, I absolutely took the opportunity to try and educate them. Some people just know everything though so its like talking to a brick wall. Oh man did the guy out on the boat have some fish stories though! Entertaining to listen to! A real boost for the ego if you know what I mean...

Nice job Mark, congrats on another great musky outing. Its to bad that we can't just take a sock full of quarters and teach a few of these folks some sense. Just try to keep doing what your doing, educated the general public. Its a long dusty road but we'll eventually get there. We've been having some issues with poachers at Mayfield but it seems more anglers are getting better informed ovr the years. Anyhow,I'm rambling again....Nice job dude!

Or how the folks that never read a regulation book or sign at the launch? They keep a 30" fish because they think it's a 36" fish and have ZERO clue that the regs say 50". I don't know about people sometimes...ok, most-times.
