Such beautiful weather and busy times before us my wife and I decided to hit the lake rather late in the afternoon. We managed to catch a fair number of fish in a short time including what may be my personal best for a Perch out of this lake. We were after Crappie and they did not disappoint us none and we also got into more Bluegill than I think I have ever encountered in one day there as well. The Perch was only a little over 10.5" but it was the fattest one I can recall catching and it hit with authority, I thought it was a Bass for sure until it showed itself, wife caught a couple nice 10" Crappie to boot. It was a nice practice run for my upcoming trip to N. Minnesota for some REAL Crappie fishing and Walleye whacking. :) Klahowya! Just tried uploading photos, not sure why they are not working so I will post them to my page.

Hey BMGW,

Nice Perch and Crappie, so I have to ask about how far would you say Leland is from Seattle and what kind of Camping facilities do they have? I have been trying to get my family to a good panfish lake and so far Black Lake is the only one I have come across up to this point, which we had a blast on. Great Pictures, enjoy N. Minnesota, wish I could be back in the Good Old Mid-West for the final few months of fishing season. Right now is Prime Time for sure.

Definately nice Perch and Crappie. I grew up in Illinois and we used to vacation in Detroit Lakes, Minn. every summer. Some great memories of catching big Crappie, Northern and LMB. Enjoy your trip...

Heya Nate, I figure about 2.5hrs driving around through the Tacoma Narrows with a boat to the hwy 101 junction. There is a nice little campground run by the county and has volunteer hosts, I think it's $18.00/night right next to the lake.. Trimcat, my brother lives in Detroit Lakes, not far from where my granparents had a beautiful lake home that we kids, cousins and all have many a good memories of Strait Lake. Black lake just has not been kind to me, can't seem to figure it out. I for one would sure love to see more Crappie lakes closer to metro and on the peninsula. Hey 'Ol Grey, first Crappie in the cooler will be for you!
