Got out to Amber for the second time since it opened in mid March. The trip proved to be a lot more successful.

I witnessed one of the largest midge hatches I have seen at Amber during the two hours I fished. However, with the exception on fly fisherman, the guys drowning chrinomids reported slow fishing.

I don't have the patience for chironomid fishing so usually troll deep and today was no exception. During the two hours I was there, I landed 6 fish, lost about another 6 and missed about a dozen strikes. I never have as good of hook up rate fishing in boat as I do in the float tube with my hands on the rod at all times.

The takes were fairly subtle at times and the fish were really going airborne so lots of lost fish if you couldn't keep the line tight.

Specifics:

Time on water: 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Line: SA Uniform Sink III
Depth: 10-15 feet over 15-30 feet of water
Fly: Olive bodied Wooly Bugger with Black tail and hackle size 6
Trolling Speed: Dead slow to a drift.
