Got to get out to the lake this afternoon for some fly fishing. New pole, new pontoon, and one hell of a good time. I'd only used the pole one time before to catch a few small bluegill. Having 14" trout on it was a much better test.

I was able to land 9 or 10 fish, lost 2-3, and missed around 25 strikes :( I'm still a novice but it was so much fun to learn at this lake because I got so many chances and when something went wrong I was able to sit back and do it right next time. I'd lost a few fish on dry flies, had a few hits on a stimulator and royal wulff. Then I tried an indicator with a chironomid and that caught the most (big thanks to Greg at Big R Fly Shop for that tip). I lost two flies but such is life. One was to a fish that broke 3.4lb test leader and I believe my knot tying skills to be pretty solid. This was one of the fish that taught me a lesson. I'd have loved to seen the size of it. Knowing that lake fairly well I'd guess it was minimum 16" and 1.5 pounds but some of the fish fight extremely well for their size. I even had a 10" fish pull my pontoon around a little haha.

My Dad was also there and caught at least half a dozen with more getting off. He used a daredevle spoon as well as a frog colored hotshot that he trolled around with.

Fish averaged 12" but only a few were actually 12" it was more trading off 10" then 14" fish. The clarity of the water was nice and you could see the occasional 16" or bigger swim by. Sure we could have hooked up with them if we'd stuck around longer.

Nice job on the fly fishing man! Good to see others with the fly gear having success on Green Lake. Thanks for the report!

I see a fly tying bench and stacks of feathers, fur, yarn, thread, tools, "road kill" deer hair, etc in your future. I have never been to this lake or many others up north. Maybe some year in the near future if my 401k stays intact! Thanks for the great fly fishing report!
