6-8" is a little small to eat, not much meat on it, but get one around the 12+ inch mark and they are some tasty eating. Just fillet it, skin it, bread it with flour and ground red pepper and fry it.

that is 100% definitely a brown bullhead, a smaller member of the catfish family, not only safe to eat, but in my opinion better than any other type of catfish, yellow bullhead are very good aswell. these are found in many of the lakes around here, ive only caught them up to 14" in this state, but in my home state of new york, ive caught them up to 4 pounds, and average 1-2#s. they are mostly nocturnal, with the occasional taker during the day. the best way to fish them is with bait( worm, bluegill/ perch guts, chicken liver) at night, on the bottom. nice job on the day time bullhead, and thanks for the report.
