Oh, whadda day. We limited-out again on this windy day; my fishing buddy added another anecdote to our already-thick book of unusual fishing exploits: Today, as we were trolling (near hot spot #2) my friend felt a slow tug on his pole. Usually, that meant weeds contacting our fishing lines. But not today! As he was reeling-in his line, he came upon a fishing lure! It took him a few seconds to realize it was HIS fishing lure, snagged-up on a softball-size tangle of lightweight fishing line. He grabbed at his lure to begin to untangle it--- only to realize something was pulling BACK on that tangle of line. My friend groaned and said "Lordy, the line is stuck on the bottom!" Except he didn't exactly use "Lordy" but a more sailor-y term of disappointment.... Anyway, he found out REAL QUICK after we stopped the boat that the tangled-up line was NOT stuck to the bottom; there was a FISH still on it! So that discovery quickly led to a hand-over-hand retrieval of that line until--- at last, a 16" trout was lifted into the boat! My friend caught his first fish without hooking it with his own lure. His lure had only hooked the hopelessly-tangled mass of line, and THAT was hooked to the fish. The tangled ball-of-line consisted of a really light monofilament--- which probably explained why it broke for an unlucky fisherman earlier this morning (That fisherman who lost the fish shouldn't feel too bad; I lost a lunker of a trout earlier this season, just as I was hoisting it out of the water--- my line broke RIGHT AT THE HOOK, so I lost the fish and all the parts to my homemade fishing lure. That was with a snelled hook and 8-lb. test leader!)
Despite the wind, which couldn't make up its mind as to what speed it would blow, today was another bang-up fishing day at Williams Lake. Thanks, WDFW.
(P.S. We picked-up the trash a boater chucked in the water before he trailered his boat...)
