what a beautiful lake cavanaugh is... got there and in the water by 7am, we cruised out towards the islands with the gas motor, and we started seeing fish jumping and hitting the surface everywhere, so we stopped and started trolling.. we started out trolling rapalas and wedding rings, no hits on either on the low speed setting after 20 minutes or so, so we switched up to all wedding rings, and added weight to get the bait down, after 20 minutes of this and still no bite, we put the gas motor back on and went to change direction, i told my friend to try fast trolling, he was a little hesitant, thinking we wouldnt get nothing like that, but sure enough i did :) a little 6" cutt, then he got a 7" cutt right after, after we got our speed dialed down we got quite a few bites, we did try to target kokanee for a bit, but i have 0 experience with them..i tried using a 1/2oz bell sinker about 4 ft from the wedding ring to get depth, but only caught cutts, biggest cutt of the day was 10" and we caught 6 fish between us, we didnt slay them, and they werent big, but they were pretty fish, and it was beautiful there, i had fun, and look forward to being back there again, if anyone has any tips about this lake id appreciate it, especially for the kokes...i still have never caught one, and would like to..

Cav. is one of my favorite lake as well. You are right about it's beauty. Those island are really cool. This year the cutt. reports have not been so well. I fished it once I think too early this year before the water temps. have come up. However, the last 2 years it was a great success for me with discovering the kokanee.
You asked for any tips... Check out: http://joesflies.com/
These spinners were the hot ticket last year for me. You can find them at Fred Meyer stores. They usually only carry 1 or 2 varieties, but they really worked well.

Ive had the best luck with pinks, purples, and reds on this lake. I havent been this year yet but make sure you have white shoe peg corn and take some kokanee sents with you as well. Ive had the best luck in the deep section in the middle by the islands. tight lines

I have fished Cavanaugh a few times and in my experience the fish (Kokanee and Rainbows) are plentiful but skinny. I think they all do palliates or something to stay so slim. LOL Never the less they are fun to catch. Most all the fish I have caught from this lake are in the 8" to 12" range with a few 14" and 16" here and there. Try a small dodger in front of a wedding ring tipped with some Pautzke Fire Corn.
