It feels great to be able to be back up at Baker lake huntin for sockeye. A buddy and I made it up there and was fishing at 4:30 in the morning. We were using small pink smiley blades above two small red beads and a single hook which we tipped with a small piece of sandshrimp. We ran the downrigger at 21ft the whole time. We put time in on the small area bellow silver creek and then moved up right infront of the creek. I hooked 4 and broaght 2 in and my buddy managed to get the two in that he hooked. My cooler blew out of the boat on the way up so we called it an early day at 4 fish because thats all I could stuff into my livewell.

14in leader with a 1.1in pink mirror smiley blade with two small red glow beads and a single hook with a shrimp tail. They have not been touching the double hook rig and as soon as i cut my buddys second hook off he got fish. Hope this helps in ur quest to slay socks.

I have a question for you Norm. What kind of downrigger do you have and do you like it? I am looking for 2 for my 14 foot jon but need cheap and small. I am looking at the scotty mini lake troll.

Great report, Norm. Single hook looks to be the ticket.

However, do you think a black hook closest to dodger might make a difference?

I have a cannon manual with the extended boom and a penn fathom master manual. The cannon is built tough while the penn is a lot simpiler and smoother to crank. The cannon is easier to let down because you are using the handle to brake where as on the penn you have to have your hand on the wheel to ease it down or it will go really fast. I got the pen on cregslist for $50 and it works awesome. I would go with whatever is easier for you and your wallet. As far as the other question about the hooks, i dnt think it matters what color the hooks are unless you are not going to put bait on them. If you run them without bait then i would use a red or blue hook.
