I met up with Bryne Chum at Greenlake to do a little late evening/night fishing at Greenlake. I was thinking we might be able to turn up a catfish after dark. While it was still light out, I was casting a small chrome Kastmaster for trout on the long dock by the amphitheater. I had no luck with that, so after a while I got out some earthworms I had leftover from taking my daughter out fishing. I thought it would be fun to jut put on a bait hook and a small split shot and jig around the edge of the dock, and see what I could turn up. I quickly caught a sculpin and a tiny largemouth bass. Had some fun with the little guys for a while, then thought I would toss a worm out farther away from the dock on the bottom. I thought maybe I could turn up a trout or catfish or something that way. My pole started moving, and I grabbed it to find I had something big on the line. I was using a med/light rod with 6 pound line, and it immediately bent in half and the drag started screaming. The fish made 3 or 4 long runs like that, but I was slowly making progress. We finally saw it jump and realized I had a carp on the line. I managed to get it right up against the dock. It was maybe around two feet long, and colored white and orange. Not having planned for catching carp, I was in a pickle because I had 6lb test line, and no net. I grabbed the line with my hand to hold it put, so I could ask Bryne to try and grab the fish, but TWANG, in my excitement I put too much tension on the line, and it snapped. I both thrilled I had nearly caught a carp without trying, and heartbroken at the same time.

I tried the same routine, worm on the bottom and soon turned up a nice 11.5" rainbow. That helped salve my wounds a little. It got hooked deep, and was bleeding badly, so I took it home and cooked it up for todays lunch.

After that it got dark and we started pulling up rock bass. Most of them were big enough to keep, and Bryne decided to take himself home some dinner.

So we got carp, trout, largemouth, sculpin and rock bass. Most fun I have had at Greenlake in a while!

Last week I threw out some corn and bread pieces to the east of the amphitheater, hoping we'll get some carp over this way, maybe it's working!
