Over all great day of fishing. Set in around 11am and fished till dark. Spent some time trolling around the lake with a down rigger ranging from 30-45'. First time fishing this lake and at first was not impressed. Hours without a strike and constantly on top of fish. Almost ready to call it a day but figured might as well see if it picks up around sunset. Hour before sunset with light rain coming down we decided to throw anchor at 20'. Switching up our gear and adding some white shoepeg corn on the hook, first cast fish on. With almost every cast, you could feel little nibbles. Between two of us caught 12 Kokanee's by dark. Sizes ranging from 9''-12''. Smaller fish but put up reasonable fight.

Tacoma Power has been over-planting Alder for years, thus the small size. Koke larger than 13" are few and far between. This is the only koke lake I have fished that is better after 10am. My goto has been a small dodger with a green or red double whammy wedding ring with anise/herring shoepeg on the DR. Second rod flatlined at 100' with either a wedding ring or a nettlefish. Try trolling a loop around the bay to the left of the Alder Park launch and then all the way to the dam and back. Most of my limits have come from within sight of the docks in 35' to 80' of water. The only time I have been skunked on Alder was the day we went to shoot a video!
