1/4/2013 5:14:00 AM@ BCUZTHRBITIN: Sounds like you had fun! You may have to adjust your post, because you selected "Walleye" as the species instead of "Rainbow Trout." When you hiked southwards from the parking lot, did you see holes in the ice where people had thrown rocks to determine the ice thickness? Is that ice on the north half of the lake thick enough (2" minimum) to safely hold an Ice Fisherman? How about the "First Narrows" area about two-thirds of a mile from the boat launch area, where the cliffs neck-down into a narrow strait?

At the "Necked down narrows" I did notice a series of holes drilled on the South bank, where the sun hasn't shone in a while. Personally, I can't imagine feeling comfortable ice fishing on less than 4 inches of ice. I don't know how thick the ice could have been there. I was there alone and didn't want to tempt fate. And it would have been a long walk to the South side of the narrows. The North bank ice was too thin to stand on. Fishing is fun but not worth a January ice plunge.
