With today's weather being pretty fair, I worked feverishly through the morning hours to wrap up what needed to get done so that I could get onto the lake hopefully before the rain started. Put in at Coulon at almost 2:00 and headed for the mouth of the Cedar and troll toward the island. I had a good feeling about this outing because last night I did all the required prep and had some borrowed gear from a friend who assured me would work. It consisted of some kind of bent up blue and silver spoon that i ain't never seen before 36" of leader and 36" of almost pop gear with 4 big propellers on it that he made himself. Well I lowered the ball down slow to 25 ft after paying out bout 100 yards and 10 min into it the rod starts bobbing up and down slowly and it's been so darn long since I've caught a fish that for a min i was asking myself "so what do you spose that's all about" Duh. Fished a little longer till the sky started to really darken up and headed home happy.

Nicely done! It was a great day out there. I was out on the north end of the lake at the same time. Just one little cutty for my effort, about 12 inches, instant C&R on mine. Yours looks like a decent meal.

Great report, thanks! It was a good way to start my Friday morning, a humorous yet informative fishing report. Congrats on shakin' the skunk off!

Thanks for the report. Since I am renting a condo next to the Atlantic City boat launch I have a chance to talk to a lot of the fishing guys who are coming and going. It seems you caught about the average number of fish so it has not been about numbers. I have not been out for some time due to "this and that" and that is going to change shortly. Just wondering - has anyone been perch fishing lately and been successful. The last time we found them they were at 70 to 80 ft and then could not find them again.

Hey Slabman, I got into them on Monday when I went bass fishing, at least I think they were perch , only landed one , about 8-9 inches, but they wouldn't stop biting the trailer on my jig. This was at 55 ft, not sure if all the bites were perch, but it was keeping me on y toes with every tap...tap, then again could of been sculpin, bullheads ect, but I did get the one, this was on the northeast side of the Mercer launch, good luck out there!

The area I was trolling and all along the Coulon park frontage has more fish and baitfish than you can shake a ugly stick at not sure what all species they are but its a party for sure. I had to turn the alert off the fish finder before i got whiplash from looking back at it every time

I second that. The area to the northeast of the Mercer Island launch is loaded with small marks right now. Lots of tapping going on in that area, and a buddy of mine picked up a 2 lb smallie trolling thru that area a couple of weeks ago. Tight lines.
