We got on the lake sometime just before 6AM. We trolled circles around the lake staying 200 to 300 feet from shore. I was using a 1/8 oz. kastmaster spoon colored like a rainbow trout. I landed 2 rainbows approx 8" to 10". My wife was using an 1/8 oz Sonic Humdinger spoon. What a HOT lure! She caught 4 fish in less than an hour, the smallest an 8 incher and the largest a 16" rainbow. What a meaty fish! She got tired of fishing so I took the Humdinger. Wow, what a morning, I caught and released a few more. My fishing buddy was using a blue striped Kastmaser, I he caught and released a bundle of rainbows.
We seemed to get more bites on the northerly end of the lake. We were also fishing from the surface to maybe a foot or two down. Best lake in western Washington I have ever fished at, and it's no secret. I think the population of the town tripled this weekend. We had to park the truck and trailer at least a half mile from the lake. I have never seen so many people on a single lake on opening day before. As crowded as it was, there was plenty of room to fish. We stopped fishing by 9AM, as the bite seemed to be off. I am definitely going back to this lake a couple of more times this season.
If anyone reading this report plans on going on opening day in the future, get there early. You gotta get there real early.
