Well went out to try a repeat performance that I had earlier in the year. It did not happen. Granted it was a bit winder today than the fly rod really liked but I tried the same tactic in some new locations as well as the old spots. We were drifting to the rock faces that were getting hit with wind and sinking wolly buggers in olive and black, worked that until about 10-Noon with only 2 light strikes and 1 follower. Switched gears at about Noon and went to spin tackle with 1/4oz Little Cleo red/god spoon trolled at less than 2 mph, it was hard to stay straight in the wind but managed one fish in the middle of the southern end about 1000 yards from the boat launch.

Fish were there just didn't like the fly gear today, also didn't much care for the spinning tackle either, actually they probably just didn't care much for us. When we got to the launch a gentleman fishing next to the launch landed three nice fish on about 5 casts using a gold spoon, so the fish were there just not into us apparently.

The osprey caught a good 10 incher right in my drift line, took him a solid minute to float readjust and get back up with a fish that big. So I also know they were where we were because the bird out fished me again. I will be back just not sure when, might try fishtrap or williams in the near future.

Tight lines and heavy nets,
Fowl

Hey Fowl - Fish are fickled creatures to be sure! I guess that's why we keep practicing and it is called fishing...not catching. As for me I prefer to CATCH!!!!!!. Alan

Forgot to ask; what shape was the water in? Has it cleared and warmed up? Thanks

al, yeah, as they say, sometimes you eat the bar...

Not too sure on the water clarity issue, last time I was up there was Feb 18th so obviously the water was a bit more mixed up today than it was before. If I was going to give a decent guess I would say it was about 1-2 feet viability in the south by the launch to 3-4 feet in the deeper sections or areas that weren't so susceptible to wind, about 1/3 north of the lake. The lake level was down about a foot as well exposed a lot of good habitat so I think the fish have moved off the ledges they hold on in the winter and are starting to get into that spring/summer thermocline mode, I was marking a lot of fish in the middle water column when in water less than 40 feet deep and fish suspended at about 10-15 feet in the deeper water.
