Limited the boat (4 fish) by 9:30 AM. Fished an 0 Chrome Dodger, 14 inch leader, pink squid tipped with small piece of shrimp and krill scent, at 1.2 mph. First fish caught at 20 ', other 3 caught at 40', also caught 3 Dollies. Fished road side of lake, up lake from Swift Creek. Fish are bright and shiny. As usual, when husbands and wives go fishing together, the female always catches the biggest fish! This time, it was a beautiful 9 pounder. Beware, the game warden said, the fishermen not using shrimp were not doing very good.

Yes Sockeye. Good eats! Just posted my report which should be up shortly. Fresh shrimp was key for us too. Fished the opener yesterday with fresh shrimp and we took 6 fish in 2.5 hours. 4 of the 6 were 7+ pounds the other 2 females were around 5 each. Today we fished it again but realized after we arrived that our "fresh " sand shrimp was spoiled and we didn't get a single strike all morning while boats everywhere were catching fish. Key is fresh bait, chrome dodgers and short leaders, with scent applied. all our fish came at between 18 and 24 feet in about 150 feet of water. Great job FF....

There are 3 launch sites I am aware of. First is the launch at the dam, its a concrete ramp,no dock, can always find parking, and is free. But since the fishing takes place at the other end of the lake its to far away from the fishing grounds for a small boat, also the wind usually blows up the lake, making for a possible rough ride coming back. The second is coming Panorama Point, dirt launch, fee, not good for fiberglas hauls, not to far away from fishing, limited parking coming on weekends, get there early or late after some of the rigs have left. Third is Swift Creek Camp Bounds. Most popular, as concrete ramp, floats, fee, can be a zoo, coming on weekends, very close to fishing grounds, get there REAL EARLY, or late. Be sure you park only in the designated parking areas at this lake, the Forest Service is anal and will fine. You will know where to fish when you see all the boats. This is one of the few fisheries you can catch salmon from a small boat, be it a canoe, kayak, rubber raft or small boat. I have seen fish caught from all of the above. although I have 4 downriggers on my boat, one can do fine with 3 ounces plus of lead. I would recommend lead over a diver, since one is trolling at 1.2 mph lead will sink further down where a diver needs speed to achieve depth, as the morning passes one will need to get to a depth of 40 ft. I use a very small piece of wet pack coon stripe shrimp. I have fished both fresh sand shrimp, and coon shrimp side by side, and found them to be equal. I prefer the the coon shrimp because I don't have go to the store every time, I don't throw any away, and if you keep it cold, it lasts forever. I found a left over jar in my garage fridge this year and caught limits on 7/10/13 & 7/11/13 on it. Stay out of the crowed, keep to the inside or out side. What is a salmon seeing, when there are 300-400 fishermen, some with 2 pole endorsements, 2 or more people in a boat, towing 1000 cannon balls, and 0 flashers? Soon one will need to go smaller to achieve the threshold hole attraction after the morning bite. First bite the 0 chrome dodger, pink hoochie, and 14 inches or less of leader work all season. Remember as the sun comes up the lines go down.
