Made a quick trip to Soda for one day, Monday after 4th of July weekend. Launched at 7:00 AM, at the South boat ramp. The lake is really high at this time, the launch was easy, and there was no worries about hitting any semi-submerged obstacles. Spent all day on the lake, lots of fun, all by myself, almost no one in the area.

Targeting Walleye, I cruised to the North End,( in the current at the inflow), and started picking up shakers immediately. Heavy bottom bouncers, Green/Perch Double Whammys, and Worms. The current was really flowing, lots of water moving through the lake. Really burns up the bow-mount batteries.

I probably caught 18- 20 Walleye, (all shakers), in about 4 hours. Not a keeper in the bunch! Every one was 14- 15 ". I had lots of fun, although I went through my two dozen worms without a fish in the live-well!

Out of worms, I trolled deep diving crankbaits for awhile,, trying to follow the bottom contour, but didn't get a hit. Too difficult with the varying depths.

Late afternoon, I went to my casting rod, and pitched large, Perch Colored crankbaits in the South End shallows. I caught and released about 6 smallie's, two of which were well over a pound. Lots of fun! They really hit a burned in crankbait in a few feet of water.

Be very careful boating on this lake. At times, it can be treacherous. When the water level is dropping, strange, rocky protuberances emerge everywhere. I have seen more than one lower unit exploded in my years fishing at Soda, but it has always provided a fun time.

Please release sub-legal Walleye, and all Smallmouths. I want to go back and catch 'em again.

Thanks for the report! Soda is probably my favorite lake in the state. Fun abounds there!
