Fished the 23rd and 24th. Mornings starting at 5:00 quit around 10:00. Tuesday not even one bite. Tried usual sockeye stuff from bare hooks with shrimp to mini ace high fly and squids in various designs. Finally on Wednesday around 7:00 get our first bite. I get the line released from the downrigger clip and the fish rockets to the surface. I reel like crazy but the sockeye jumps out of the water a couple feet and throw the hook. 15 minutes later another good bite and it is fish on. Battle for a minute or so and then loose line lost everything. Fish pulled my main line swivel snap apart. Frustrated I retie and about an another 15 minutes pass and fish on again. This one also feels like a good fish. Fight again for a couple minutes then I again feel a slack line lost doder again but on a different pole. On inspection my mainline was all frayed. Must have got around something. FYI check your gear after every fish. Most guys were not catching anything. Only saw a handful of fish caught each day in the 2 days we were up there. I heard the fish trap was broken so that with the season low numbers and a full moon killed the fishing.

ouch, three lost fish, sorry to hear that. I wondered about the full moon. I even started at 4:45am on Wednesday morning hoping to ambush a fish shallow using the light of the moon. No dice. Our experience was the same as yours, minus two bites.

Back years ago in Lk Wa the gear to have were U-20 L-9 or M2 sized flatfish. Dosent anyone use flatfish anymore?

I tried a silver with red dot u20 flatfish for about an hour and half with no bites but my other 2 lines did not have bites either.

I have caught sockeye in Baker on a flatfish type lure. When it's no bites hours on end I think it doesn't hurt to show something different.
