I just got a small fishing boat and like near Tapps, so I've been on the hunt to learn how to fish for SMB and also to learn the lake. I've been reading all your posts about the lake, what to use, where to fish, but I'm still striking out.

I've always been a trout and Salmon fisher, so I've gone out and spend about $40 on the different gear that seems to be working for all of you. Today I was out for about 3hours, off Driftwood Point. I started with a Carolina Rig with a Berkley soft plastic Watermelon... Nothing. Then switched to a ghost color Strike King 3XD.... Nothing.... Then tried a drop shot, 3/8 weight, and a Strike King Dream shot Watermelon, and finally got 3 small SMB but didn't even land them!

I got all three bites when I was at about 25 ft casting back toward the shelf. Anyone able to give some help?!

My email is bgraham83@gmail, if you dont want to post a reply. I'm open to any suggestions, I really want to figure this out! These fish are all haunting my dreams at night b/c I can't catch them!

Thanks

LOTS of good info on this web site, just keep reading, you'll get it and find them. Finding the Bass is the hardest part. Be sure to read the forums too, not just the reports.

Be sure to call Limit Out Performance Marine. Chris and Russ can help you with anything you need in the way of Bass fishing information and they are sorta close to you in Pacific.

I have had good success out on Tapps but Tuesday I really had to work for a handful of fish. There was a tournament over the weekend. Not sure how much that fishing pressure effected things.

The best suggestion I have is to read the past fishing reports for Tapps, and fish the same way. Look at the water depth and lures being used at different times of the year, and do the same. I really try hard to show exactly how I fish Lake Tapps and where I fish. The same day you did nothing, I caught 43. Learn from others. Way back when that's how I did it.

Thanks for the replies. I caught three Wednesday evening just off the wooded island to the west of Driftwood point. Each time I've gone out has been more successful than the time before. The only thing I've had any luck with is a drop shot with a watermelon plastic worm. Hopefully in a couple weeks I'll be catching 43 like Rickey! See you on the water.
