Took my son fishing with me to Tapps. Had a pretty good day, other than my son has a tendency to not only set the hook on fish, but also stumps he drags over. If there were such a thing, he would have hook more than his fair share of stumps. Anyway, between the two of us we caught 18 smallies, with the biggest being 3-2 and 2-15. My son took a photo of my biggest. Fished all morning on the hump and ridge out in front of the boat launch, just going back and forth with a Carolina rigged grub. Called it a day at noon.

how big of a grub are you using and is it rigged weedless . Nice fish by the way.

Hey Ricky, I'm the guy you talked to by the stumps. Thanks for the insight. I didn't have much luck today, but I will keep trying.

bassman: I pour them in a 2 1/2 inch mold, and in watermellonseed. And I rig them Texas style with a No. 1 wide-gaped Gamagatzu worm hook.
PintSizedLucille: If you don't have a graph recorder, fishing can be tough, especially on Lake Tapps. To be successful on Tapps during the summer and fall, its almost a necessity. Once spawn is over most of the smallmouth move off into deeper water where they school up on the sides of steep drops off points and humps. It doesn't have to be an expensive one, just as long as it gives you the depth. Yesterday, for the most part, the smallies were holding in 21 to 24 feet of water. Any shallower or any deeper and bites were scarce. I know. I tried. After finding the right depth on sharp drops of the bottom, just slowly drag the bait at that depth, making certain the bait is always in contact with the bottom. It doesn't get much simpler than that.

Join the club. Every time I go more than three days without wetting a line I get itchy and twitchy too.
